Khaplu Fort

Pioneered by the Aga Khan Cultural Service Pakistan, Khaplu Palace, which was once the former seat of government and one of Baltistan's finest royal residences, has been restored from a dire state of dilapidation.

FND was responsible for the design and integration of modern heating, ventilation and plumbing systems in the project- a challenge for all conservation projects.

The heating system is based on hot water produced by diesel operated boilers.

A modern kitchen and cold stores were designed for the restaurant. An air-conditioning system using chilled water from an underground stream was also designed but not currently implemented.
